2050 is our travels in Europe take place by train as we travel 300 km or more. The new railway will cost trillions of dollars.

The European Commission today unveiled a plan (Transportation 2050) for shipments within the Union should be done in a way that reduces the environmental impact and reduces dependence on oil by 60 percent by 2050. Under the plan, 50 percent of freight and passenger transport away from roads in the medium to long trips, 300 km or more. By 2030, railway and sea transport have taken over 30 percent of traffic from roads.

The Transport 2050 wants the EU's transport commissioner Siim Kallas to show some movement within the Union may increase even though we reduce oil dependency and environmental impact.

In an interview with the newspaper Die Welt said Siim Kallas said that the ambitious investment in railways require substantial investments from both the corporate and the individual Member States.

According to Die, Welt the cost just to build out a core network by 2020 about 5,000 billion. Of these, 800 billion come from central Europe, the rest have to Member States and industry to stand for.

Today there are 6637 km high speed rail in Europe and 2400 km is being built out. Follows the U.S. plan of the Transport 2050 so will Europe in 2025 have almost 18000 km high-speed lines.

Furthermore, the Commission proposal envisages that air and sea dominate the intercontinental transport. But the new engines, fuel and traffic management systems to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

For urban transport is planned that the proportion of cars powered by traditional fuels by 50 percent in 2030, and disappear completely by 2050. Then you also have achieved the goal of zero fatalities.
