The new fast train SJ 3000, the successor to X 2000, is just one small step ahead for the fast trains on existing tracks. SJ's hope is in place for high-speed train, Green train that may be in use already for five years.
Green Train is a seven-year research project which is now crossed the
finish line with a comprehensive final report of several hundred pages. In addition, a number of research papers on various technical solutions
posted along the way.
The purpose of the Green Train project is to show how a high-speed, customized for Scandinavian conditions, will be built to run at 250 km / h on existing lines.
Today's high-speed, SJ 2000, and new, "winterized" SJ 3000, put into
service for the first time on Monday, February 6, is just plain fast
train of up to 200 kilometers per hour.
Green Train project, however, is a high speed with a powerful electric
motor and all-new "active" bogies that will clear the curves of the
existing track at high speed.
It has set itself a target 250 km / h without shaking and it has coped with the margin.
The rebuilt Regina has been used for test runs set in autumn 2008 a new
speed record for Swedish-made trains to 303 km / h on the Western Main
Line between Skovde and Toreboda.
At this sampling in 2010 has been in regular passenger service in
Mountain Act and the Bothnia Line, but only in up to 200 kilometers per
hour.
But the requirement for Green Train is more than just run fast. It will
withstand the harsh Scandinavian winters, it will be cheaper for
passengers to go and it will be profitable for train operators to run.
The travelers will flock to due to travel time is about 30 percent shorter.
Between Gothenburg and Stockholm, it should only take two hours and
forty five minutes, between Gothenburg and Malmo two hours and thirty
minutes, between Malmö and Stockholm four hours, between Stockolm and
Sundsvall three hours and twenty minutes, and between Stockholm and Umea
five hours and forty minutes.
Ticket prices are projected to decline but the SJ and other train operators will still have better profitability.
The costs of operators is reduced by 15-25 percent compared to the
second train concepts. That's because the Green Train has a wide
carriage basket with more comfortable seats in each coach, says KTH
researcher Oskar Frojdh, one of the uniting people in the Green Train
project.
