SJ's new trains to cope with winter, with proven technology. The basic design of the SJ-3000 trains have been tested in snow and ice for over ten years. New technology has had a first look.

Outside Bombardier lokverkstad in Vasteras is number two of SJ's 20 new SJ 3000 trains, the new fast trains to enter service after the summer. Six men from SJ and Bombardier are in line to brag about and respond to the Swedish basic questions about trains:

We have invested in proven technology this time. This train models have gone for ten years in Sweden and proven to withstand winters without a problem, "says SJ's project manager, Dan-Erik Hansen.

SJ 3000, or the formal name of x55, is in fact a classic Regina in new clothes.

The six men will lead us around the outside of the train and pointing. Transparency and simplicity underneath is what counts. No tilt mechanism that may malfunction and cause sickness. And a clever solution to a sensitive place. The suspension, which could be collected snow, sits a polycarbonate disc that prevents snow from getting a foothold.

Window opening is worse. It would require an expensive mechanism that may malfunction as much as ventilation. But there is a hammer and an ax at strategic locations.

Train hollow contact rail is kind to the catenary. The rail is held up by compressed air. If it is damaged - and that's when it can tear down a wire - air seeps out and it will fall towards the ceiling, and a pool bar goes up.

The SJ would rather brag about is information and entertainment system on board. Information panels in the lobby and lounges will interact with a wireless system that passengers will have access to through their computers joining.

There will be offered films and radio programs, and personalized traffic information for those who wish to do so. For example if you bought a trip from Stockholm to Kinna, you can also find out about local train from Boras is on time.

We have multiple antennae on board that pick up signals from 3G and 4G masts along the track. Then we aggregate all we get hold of and benefits via optical fiber and internal antennas, says Petter Essen, SJ Infotainment Division.
