On the car show in Tokyo this week presenting the Toyota sports car that
you talked about ever since the company went into Subaru when GM pulled
out. The car is called "86" after the successful Corolla Levin AE86
used at rallies in the 1980s.
The new sports car, a 2-liter four-cylinder boxer engine that drives the rear wheels. The engine comes from Subaru, Toyota stands for injection. The maximum power is 200 horsepower at 7000 rpm. Low center of gravity and center-mounting promises excellent road holding. Fuel consumption and emissions will nevertheless be level with a family with two-liter engine, Toyota claims. With a sports car in the range hope Toyota marque give a fresher image. Toyota is most closely associated with hybrid drive and a little flattened family cars, and has also suffered setbacks through major withdrawals and production disruptions due to natural disasters. |
