Defence group Saab will produce important aviation electronics systems to the new, advanced military unmanned plane Talarion.
Talarion launched by the manufacturer Cassidian, a subsidiary of the
European defense group EADS, during an air show in Paris 2009th. It is an unmanned plane developed by request of France, Germany and
Spain. The plane measures 28 feet wingspans, has twin jet engines and
is particularly used for military reconnaissance, surveillance and
malinmatning. The plane represents one of several new generations of
UAVs, unmanned air vehicles, in Europe.
Cassidian has now signed an agreement with Saab AB. The first order refers to three main electronic control board.
It's about a computer that handles the plane's control systems (Aircraft
Vehicle Management Computer), a computer that handles data link and
communication with the ground (Communications Computer) and a computer
that controls the sensors on board, such as radar and cameras, (Mission
& Payload Management Computer).
Work will be performed by Saab Electronic Defence Systems in Jonkoping
and Jarfalla during the years 2012-2014. For Saab, this is an important
prestige order.
It is our knowledge of security to the critical systems and our
expertise in the use of standardized building blocks that enabled us
scooped the order and managed to beat the really big kites in this field
in Europe and the U.S., says Ronniy Nyquist, Head of Avionics Saab
Electronic Defence Systems in Jonkoping.
Saab will supply systems to be deployed in the first prototype of Talarion which is scheduled to come up in the air in 2014.
The framework agreement means that Saab also have the opportunity to deliver the same kind of equipment to the future, potential client countries. Piece price per plane is expected to reach 2 billion. |
