An electric mini aircraft for one person is now at NASA. It raises as a helicopter and flies like a plane.

At NASA Langley Research Center in the U.S. now investigated the possibility of building a small aircraft for one person. Promoters are engineering Mark Moore, who is backed by MIT, Georgia Institute of Technology and the National Institute of Aerospace, writes Scientific American.

The plane eldrivet Puffin and is a combination of a helicopter and plane.

This allows the Puffin both can take off and land vertically. But once the air passes the plane of glide,

Now eldrivet building a prototype researcher at a scale of 1:3 lift in March. It is mainly used to investigate how well the Puffin to move from glide to stand vertically and hoovra.

In full-scale Puffin will be 3.5 meters long, weighing 180 kg, including batteries and have a wingspan of 4.1 meters.

Propellers measuring 2.3 meters in diameter and will be driven by electric motors at about 45 kilowatts.

They should give the plane a top speed of 480 kilometers per hour while cruising speed down to 240 kilometers per hour.

With batteries weighing 45 kg will be level in the air about 20 minutes, and traveled to 80 kilometer.

The researchers believe that the plane is able to rise to over 9 000 meters before the batteries run out and it is time for the landing.

Puffin is primarily intended for the use of military personnel and the rescue operation. Unmanned plane will also be used for transportation.
