Felix Baumgartner planned that the first man to fall freely through the sound barrier. But now the sponsor pulls the emergency brake.
Austrian Felix Baumgartner has long planned to travel with a helium balloon to 36 km altitude, and from there to throw himself headlong to the ground and on the road exceed the speed of sound. At 1500 meters developed a parachute.
In the attempt to Baumgartner beat the previous altitude record for free
fall, which was set in 1960 by pilot Joe Kittinger. He jumped from 31.3
km altitude.
Baumgartner also want to find out what happens to a human body when it
travels freely through the sound barrier. The experience could possibly
be useful in developing techniques to rescue astronauts who must abandon
a spacecraft.
And the sponsor, sports drink manufacturer Red Bull, was the spectacular jump provide valuable publicity.
The problem now is to just sponsor a victim of a lawsuit from a person
who claims to have stolen the whole idea. Daniel Hogan says that he
presented this idea in a confidential plan for Red Bull six years ago,
and that therefore it is he who has the right to the event.
For safety's sake, because the Red Bull stopped Felix Baumgartner jumps
in anticipation of the matter is decided in court. It is unclear if
Baumgartner is hoping for a new hope, opportunity, or if the sponsor
spends the entire project.
Four years ago, Felix Baumgartner jumped from a helicopter and landed on
the roof of the Turning Torso in Malmo. From there he hopped on down to
the ground.
