| Ericsson Helicopter has landed in Japan |

![]() Today, landing a helicopter with Ericsson staff and equipment needed to repair the excluded mobile networks in northern Japan. Much of the mobile infrastructures in the Tohoku region in northern Japan were destroyed in the disaster for nearly three weeks ago. Exactly how much of the mobile networks have been knocked out is still not known. Ericsson has flown a helicopter to Japan to help operators to build infrastructure for the mobile networks. The helicopter of type Bell 205, and is expected to be in place today, Thursday. The helicopter is Ericsson employees and necessary repair equipment. It is about the repair of base stations, construction of towers and foundations, and to ensure that base stations have access to electricity. The helicopter will also be used for shipments of food, water and clothing. Ericsson will also offer its customer, the operator Softbank, 150 satellite phones to facilitate construction. How many subscribers who do not have mobile coverage is also unknown. A high proportion of population in the affected areas has been relocated and can be located in areas without coverage. From Japan also heard reports on the severe shortage of mobile phones, as many have disappeared or been destroyed in the disaster. The Japanese operators are borrowing now out mobiles for people to call. |
