Remotely operated excavators and dump trucks have been deployed in the clearing work around the wrecked reactor in Fukushima.

In front of computer screens in stralsakra buildings are machine revisionists and govern the construction machines which are now beginning to clean up the rubble around the reactors at the Japanese nuclear power plant Fukushima Daiichi. Energy Company Tepco has hired three contractors since last week allows its remote controlled machines to clear away debris that is scattered around the plant. The machines are equipped with video cameras and technology for wireless operation.

Parts of the plant were partly broken by the powerful tsunami waves and the hydrogen explosions then occurred in several of the reactors due to lack of refrigeration.

It is unclear how long the clean-up work will take.
