![]() A robot that can unload containers with mixed freight and bulky goods. It is the goal of a European research team that recently received about 50 million by the EU Commission. About four years I think we have a prototype, “said Achim Lilienthal at Orebro University. The idea for the project was hatched at the distribution company Berthold Vollers in Bremen. The owner's father, who was second generation to run the company, had back problems from carrying coffee sacks during his career. - Work has destroyed the health of their workers. The health benefits of this project are the most important. But there is also a labor shortage in this area that the project can help mitigate, "said Achim Lilienthal. The project is called Rob Log and involving several universities and companies, from the Sweden Orebro University. The main difficulties will be to develop an automated system capable of reading the environment and set up a strategy for the unloading of containers with unknown contents, and to deal with bulky products, like coffee bags, in real time. Achim Lilienthal fails, however, assured that the project will be successful in developing a prototype by the end of the project. - We have a very good consortium. Our partners fit very well together, "he says. In Orebro, work will focus on solving different three-dimensional problems. System shall be able to see three-dimensionally in a varied and changing environment. |
