![]() John Daniels, director of the Military Security Service, is worried about security English soldiers in Afghanistan after Wikileaks revealing. John Daniels, director of military intelligence Musts, warns of attacks by Taliban insurgents and criminals after Wikileaks publishing secret documents. He calls for a "dual" to secure the military's IT systems with large amounts of secret material. DEBATE. When Wikileaks published secret documents from Afghanistan revealed not only that there is a lack of protection around the secret data, the publication can also create an immediate danger to individuals.Information relating to Armed Forces activities gives an opponent a basis for adjusting tactics and countermeasures. For the protection of personnel to operate and be effective in many cases remain confidential. Divulged our protection and plan, we become vulnerable to attacks by Taliban insurgents and criminals, who have a different agenda for Afghanistan than the international community. Particularly serious and devastating to the operation in Afghanistan is on secret information about the people who are reporting to and cooperating with the international force to leak out. In the event that these people's identities being disclosed is an obvious risk of lethal retaliation. If the allegation is true that Wikileaks is reporting one person, it calls for reflection. Military IT systems that contain large amounts of information require a special security protection. The systems should be designed so that an individual is not on its own can pick up large amounts of information. By creating systems with "dual controls" this is impossible and the risk of large information leakage is reduced. A comparison can be sloppy principle for the firing of nuclear weapons, which requires two independent people with keys to complete a firing. It previously came across classified documents and wanted to publish them, were first required to find an interested journalist and then an editor who was willing to take the risk of revealing secret information. The Internet has become the individual's own editor with the opportunity to publish in real time. The military intelligence is constantly working to develop methods and mechanisms for the protection of Armed Forces personnel and information. Security threats are very much alive, especially in surgical areas such as Afghanistan. In recent years we have found that social media is used for intelligence gathering and tracking of personnel. In 2009, there are also a number of cases in which soldiers in Afghanistan, or to their associates, have been subjected to threats, which have been found to have a link to the Swedish troop contribution to Afghanistan. The incidents have mainly been linked to employees' misuse of mobile phones and social media. These incidents have in some cases affected the personal security and in other cases led to loss of information. No matter how technically secure IT systems we build, stand or falls with certainty the individual employee safety awareness and behavior. The solution to the problem of leakage can therefore never be reduced to a technology issue, but must also be a matter of how well trained our staff are and how we ensure that only persons who are trustworthy and loyal may have access to secret information. |
