![]() Hackers have been hacking through the source code to PC Anywhere.
Security Company Symantec encourages users of its software, PC Anywhere to immediately disable it. The reason is that the hackers got over the source code, hacking.
"Symantec recommends temporarily disabling the product until Symantec
releases a final set of software updates that resolve known
vulnerabilities risks."
It writes the security services in a newly released PDF with recommendations for safe use of PC Anywhere.
The reason for the call is that someone managed to get over the source
code for a variety of software at Symantec for an invasion as far back
as 2006. Since then, most of the software upgraded but still can play
PC Anywhere be vulnerable to attacks based on knowledge of the source
code.
PC Anywhere is used for remote control of computers. This requires that
the program is installed on both the computer that controls and to be
controlled. Attacks may for example involves the unauthorized succeed
start a remote session without the knowledge of the password required.
Increased risk on computers with version 12.0, 12.1, and 12.5 of the software.
Earlier in January, claimed a group of hackers that got over the source
code of Symantec software and that it would soon be published. Symantec
announced in turn a week ago that the stolen code came from incursions
2006th.
