Half a million Swedish has an Iphone. Those who want an alternative to try out Sony Ericsson's new X10. New technology has been tested, and it is up to standard.
Expectations for Sony Ericsson’s first mobile phone with Google’s
Android operating system have been high. Especially considering that
Sony Ericsson's advanced mobile phones in recent years have not been any
major success - personally, I can not recommend any of the latest top
models of the aging systems Symbian or Windows Mobile.
Therefore, it was a pleasure to test the new X10 and note that the
paragraph after paragraph offers a pleasant experience.
To the outer cell phone is both stylish and comfortable to hold in.
Slightly more than Iphone, but not too large, While the screen is
significantly larger than the iPhone, and has more than twice the
resolution.
As usual, Sony Ericsson spirit has also high-resolution camera - eight
megapixels.
Good is the three physical buttons on the front page - Home Button,
options and backward. They work better than the touch buttons on the
Google mobile Nexus One.
Touch screen - what is essential on a touch screen mobile phone - is not
quite as responsive as the iPhone but still very good. Writing
on-screen keyboard works very well in both portrait and landscape mode.
The interior is Android in version 1.6. Better would have been version
2.0 or 2.1, which is in a few mobiles, including Google's own Nexus One.
According to Sony Ericsson will be an upgrade in the future - not clear
when.
Lack of under 1.6 makes all multi-touch - to be able to pinch with two
fingers to zoom into images and web pages. Plus built-in support for
Microsoft's e-mail with Exchange / Outlook, this is now managed quite
well with the program Moxie.
The link to Google's service is impeccable, of course - everything from
Gmail and maps to office programs, Google Docs. Synchronization of
contacts made against Google, but that option is also available in Sony
Ericsson's own sync service also works with most standard mobile phones.
Thus one can easily move all contacts from an ordinary mobile phone into
X10.
Sony Ericsson's own additions to the mobile’s software consist of two
main programs - Cape Times and Cape Media.
The first is a sort of super version of a last-call-list, now with
everything from email, taken pictures and play music to Facebook and
Twitter Messages.
It is right thinking - an attractive and theoretically efficient way to
see what happened. One can also focus on a person and see all the events
in relation to this.
I'm the Cape Times, a bit slow and clumsy when you want to go in depth
into the events. The program is easy to remove for those who want.
Instead, one can use the existing Android applications for Twitter,
Facebook and more.
The new media player Media Cape is the more successful - in particular, a
soft-related content, the so-called "infinity" button that appears on
the screen in different modes.
Pressing on the image for example, see images of the same person (with
Face Detection Technology), or photos taken at the same place (the
"Geotag" of the GPS position).
Another feature in the picture is that fotalbum from Facebook and Picasa
are integrated and appear next to the pictures stored on your mobile.
In music mode allows infinity button an automatic search on Youtube for
clips related to a specific song, or a search in the music store - built
is Sony Ericsson's Play Now, but other retailers, such operator may be
added.
Additionally, Media Cape retrieves album art for songs if they bear the
title and name of the album.
Media Cape as a whole is neat and efficient, but the minus is that the
image display has been significantly worse than the surface of the
iPhone, and that there is no equalizer for music listening.
Androids weakness is that it now "only" are 36 000 additional programs,
including payment programs - roughly one third - yet can be downloaded
in Sweden. For iPhone, there are currently over 150 000 "apparatus".
Otherwise, the X10 is a clear iphone-alternative, and one of the best
Android phones, even compared to Google's Nexus One.
