Now, a smaller version of the SIM card, nano-sim, which is 30 percent less than the micro-sim-cards.

 

At the fair Cates & Identification 2011 in Paris starting on 15 November, the German Giesecke & Devrient to present the new little sim card.  It measures 12 x 9 mm and is 30 percent smaller and 15 percent thinner than micro-SIM card, which measures 15 x 12 mm.
 
Compared to the default size of the sim card, which measures 25 x 15 mm, the new card is 60 percent smaller.
 
Nano-Sim card will make it possible for manufacturers of mobile connected devices to utilize the space for other functions, such as bigger batteries and more memory.
 
An approval from the European Standards Institute ETSI Telecoms is expected before year end.
 
Already next year, Giesecke & Devrient to be able to start mass production of nano-sim-cards.
 
Using an adapter, it should be possible to also use the new cards in older equipment with room for the larger sim cards.
