Dell lands in the world of cloud computing by announcing the Dell Cloud, an offer of public cloud based on its servers and storage systems, and software infrastructure provided by VMware. Like other large companies, the group Dell announced its own offer cloud-based set of brick material gathered over the acquisitions (servers, storage solutions, security) and through the publisher VMware infrastructure for the part software.
So logically the event VMworld 2011, VMware has announced that its solution vSphere 5 , Dell unveiled the Dell Cloud, provides public and hybrid cloud gathering in one has all the ingredients necessary hardware, software and services to offer end-to-end.
VMware announces the new version of its platform virtualization vSphere now in version 5 and promises more than 200 enhancements to help businesses to exploit the possibilities of cloud computing.
VMware, virtualization software specialist and cloud computing, announced vSphere 5, the latest edition of its virtualization platform as a basis for its range of cloud computing. This new release introduces over 200 enhancements and many features to automate tasks for easier maintenance and better responsiveness.
It adds support for virtual machines up to four times more powerful than before, with a configuration to handle up to 1 TB of memory and 32 virtual processors, with the assurance of high availability, authorizing the deployment of critical applications. VMware shows and vSphere 5 can handle databases covering more than 2 billion transactions per day.
vSphere 5
based on ESXi hypervisor architecture and introduces several features intelligent
management of maintenance, with a deployment mode automatically ensures the
establishment of a data center in a few tens of minutes rather than tens of
hours, and with an automatic supply of patches and fixes to the servers.
Simplify deployment and maintenance
The platform can also generate profiles of storage depending on the application in order to best manage the available resources, and introduces storage DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler) that adjusts according to predefined policies based storage virtual machines. These improvements are intended to implement a configuration defined by company policy from the start and that will be run largely on an automatic mode, reducing the time and effort not only to the implementation of the architecture cloud but also for its subsequent maintenance.
VSphere 5 is offered in several offers and prizes, according to the needs of the company, starting at $ 83 per processor. The platform is available now.
Dell and VMware intend therefore to provide an infrastructure IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) with the possibility of automating configuration and maintenance and the flexibility to quickly adapt the means to business needs.
Offers all-in-One with VMware
Knowing that he is one of the main obstacles in the adoption of cloud computing, Dell focuses on a multi-level security by implementing the technology obtained with its acquisition of SecureWorks, but also through partnerships with VMware and TrendMicro.
The offer thus includes firewalls, monitoring systems and proactive intrusion detection, security gates configured in the virtual data centers and a strong reporting to detect threats and weaknesses.
The Dell Cloud architecture based on VMware vCloud Datacenter and its associated services for the provision of public cloud, but also other components such as vSphere, vCloud Director, vCloud and Connector for Dell vStart offers private cloud or hybrid.
The Cloud offers Dell Datacenter with VMware vCloud Service is already available in beta. Marketing is planned in the U.S. by the end of the year. The deployment will follow in Europe and Asia from 2012.
