If Android is a must as a platform for smartphones this year, Apple could well become the largest maker of smartphones in 2011, according to projections by Digitimes Research.
In 2011, it should take around 462 million smartphones in the world, 60%
more than in 2010. And if Android is the platform market leader with
the support of many manufacturers, it is Apple and its iPhone, which
should acquire the status of largest manufacturer of smartphones in the
world, at Nokia, with an estimated 86.4 million iPhone sold (82% more
than in 2010) and 74.4 million handsets for Nokia (-26% compared to last
year), according to the values provided by Digitimes Research.
Apple, the leader in sales of smartphones since the second quarter, could therefore retain the title throughout the year. Samsung would take third place with 67 million units sold, almost 200% more than last year, allowing it to position itself to Research in Motion BlackBerry flowing 55.7 million (+13%). Everyone benefits Note also the presence of HTC in the Top 5 worldwide, with nearly 50 million smartphones sold in 2011. Together, these five manufacturers expected to represent over 70% of sales terminals converging against 85% in 2010.
Car market growth also benefits others. LG Electronics is rapidly
catching up and should see its shipments of smartphones to grow by 250%
or 24 million units, while Motorola and Sony Ericsson use their
expertise to Android.
Finally, in 2011, is the awakening of Chinese manufacturers Huawei and
ZTE, now engaged in the race for smartphones. Just present in 2010, they
should know the three-digit growth, bringing them closer to the middle
of the pack quickly.
