| Wind power is dangerous when it retires |

Wind turbines produce green renewable energy without carbon emissions. But when they wear out after 20-25 years of problems. A wind turbine consists of steel, concrete, machinery and rotor blades. When a wind turbine are demolished, it should not leave any dangers behind it is said.
But it's not really true, according to the Danish scientist Tom Løgstrup
Andersen Risolaboratoriet at Technical University of Denmark DTU.
There is currently no good method to recycle the leaves from wind
turbines, said Tom Løgstrup Andersen to the Danish newspaper Borsen.
The next ten years, 4,500 wind turbines in Denmark to retire. And the change to 13 500 fiberglass wings wear out and should be scrapped.
Each wing weighs two tons, so there is at least 25 000 tones of glass to be taken care of. I do not think we thought properly about the matter, said Tom Andersen Løgstrup to Børsen. Minister for the Environment Karen Ellemann recognizes that there is a problem that no one really realized the extent of but somehow, we will solve it she says.
The Danish government now sets of six million to a study of how to tackle the problem. The Danish company Refiber aim, however, to make scrapping the problem to a new business.
Refibers chief Erik Grove-Nielsen says that it is possible to make the insulation of fiberglass wings, but it has not yet become a big business out of it. So far, malt fiberglass wings for the granules and burning it in power station. |
