Yesterday inaugurated the first filling station. Tomorrow opens its first fuel factory. And rolls on the roads now the first five commercial Volvo trucks that run on bio-fuel DME.

The five DME trucks will roll in the south of Stockholm, where the first filling station for bio-DME was inaugurated yesterday, Tuesday.

The fuel comes from the company Chemrec as tomorrow, Thursday, officially inaugurates the world's first plant for bio-DME .

- To a new fuel to be able to establish itself requires the production, distribution and custom vehicles. We now have all three parts together in a unique collaboration that is very exciting, "says Volvo Trucks Environmental Manager Lars Martensson.

Volvo has developed heavy-duty vehicles fueled with DME since the late 1990s. There are several reasons that the fuel is attractive as Lars Martensson.

- It is a very good diesel fuel. It is energy efficient and has very low emissions. Compared with diesel fuel reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 95 percent if the vehicle is powered by bio-DME.

To be able to run on DME trucks have got a new tank in which liquid fuel is kept at 5 bar pressure. Adjustments were also made by the injection system and engine management software. Even the fuel pump has been replaced.

The first trucks will be able to go 40 mils on a tank DME.

- In the future, they could go around 100 mils on a tank, "says Lars Martensson.

In total, ten Volvo trucks to roll in the project spread over two years and financed by the EU, the Energy Authority and the participating companies.

Following is an evaluation. For there to be an investment in DME on a large scale requires, inter alia, more plants to produce bio-DME.

Chemrec pilot plant which will be inaugurated tomorrow, Thursday, in Pitea, has a capacity of four tons per day.

- There is more than enough to supply the vehicles in this first test, "says Patrik Lownertz, marketing manager at Chemrec.

The fuel produced by gasification of black liquor, a high energy waste product from pulp production. While the inauguration of the pilot plant is tomorrow, the production started only in November. Initially, the trucks will be fueled with DME is made from natural gas.

However, it can be finished earlier than 2014th
