More than half of the 9000 new railway signals that Switzerland switching to the next few years are equipped with solar cells. Siemens has been entrusted to the years 2012 - 2017 adapting a large part of the Swiss railway network to the single European signaling system ETCS.
430 substations and 9000 signals to be adapted to ECTS at a cost of 125
million. For 5000 of these signals, Siemens will use solar energy in
places where electricity is not available.
In addition to saving money by not having to run cable to save the Swiss Railways SBB every year 850,000 kWh of electricity. |
