Janne Wallenius, professor of Reactor Physics at KTH, says that the new nuclear power plants which will now be built are much safer than those built in the 1970s.
We have gradually moved from the second generation of nuclear
technology to third generation and is moving towards the fourth
generation. Security is very different with today's technology, "says
Janne Wallenius.
1. Reactor hall can be equipped with dual inclusions in concrete to reduce the risk of radioactive emissions.
3. It is based in "härdfångare" of heat-resistant material such as tungsten, collecting a possible meltdown. ![]() Three measures for safer nuclear power. - There are a dozen variants of the third generation nuclear power plants. All do not have the same solutions for increased security, but just "härdfångare" exist in most, "he says. Janne Wallenius has just completed a training week in Jukkasjärvi with Swedish and international nuclear scientists on the fourth generation of nuclear power. - The fourth-generation nuclear reactors based on a completely different technology and new materials. It is also much more fuel efficient because it can reuse its own waste, "he says. |
