Bullas, a town now known for its wines, is an example of adaptation to renewables. The solar garden which became operational in November 2007 generated 21 percent of total consumption of the municipality, which is equivalent to 42 per cent of household consumption bullenses. According to Fernando Sacristan, spokesman Gehrlicher Solar, with the introduction of this garden have stopped issuing more than 8,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, putting its bit to comply with the Kyoto Protocol.

And this is not the only advantage. The solar panels have been installed between the gaps of maturation of a treatment system that takes water to the irrigated area. This offset 30% of its electricity consumption. In addition, a portion of that land is the town hall, and belongs to several owners of the municipality.

The profits are being invested in a training workshop and a number of solar cookers have been installed in the picnic area of the village to avoid the fire is not put out fires. "These kitchens bring to the boil a liter of water in six minutes and concentrate the heat only the area where the container is placed," recalled Sacristán.

Result of an agreement between the mayor and Solar Gehrlicher PSOE, this garden is managed Ecopark Solar of Bullas, a company formed by 70 small investors Murcian and employs 15 people stable. One thing to note in a town that has suffered the slowdown in construction, said a villager.

The bet in this town for solar energy continues. At the moment there is already an expansion project with the aim to double the amount of solar panels and a half years in operation. In addition, they intend to put on the roofs of public buildings. Thus, schools, sports, and the council will soon own its own solar panels.

According to the spokesperson Gehrlicher Solar, "the environmental impact of these panels is minimal because the facility is not fixed and when a damaged item and withdrew. No residue left on earth."
