It looks like monstrous Dough with boomerang-shaped leaves at the tip of the sail-like wings that slowly spins three revolutions per minute.
The world famous British engineering firm Arup, together with the architectural firm Grim Shaw designed a new wind turbine that are several times more powerful than the day and unlike anything else - Aero Generator X.
The diameter is 274 meters - two and a half times as much space as today's largest horizontal axis wind turbines.
This means that the turbine may be an effect on the entire 10 MW -
between two and three times as much capacity as today's largest wind
turbines.
But Aero Generator X is not higher than other offshore wind turbines in
the sea, having a somewhat lower with 130 meters above sea level.
According to Arup designers are Aero Generator X is far more durable
than today's wind turbines, where the materials in the wings are
subjected to considerable strain and fatigue tests.
10 MW is just the beginning says Arup and customer Wind Power Limited.
It is fully possible to expand Aero Genarator X 20 MW per turbine.
- The problem with the rising costs of offshore wind must be resolved.
That is how much room for any new ideas that help to reduce costs and
improve operational safety at sea, says the head of Arup, John Roberts,
in a statement.
The first version of Aero generator was both heavier and higher than that Arup has now shown up.
