Our students are the first in the world who may use the visualization
table their education, says Pia Tingstrom, director of the Educational
Centre at Linkoping Health University.
The so-called visualization table is a large touch screen that displays three-dimensional images of living or deceased individuals. The images created with the help of advanced algorithms and data from a computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging.
Students just need to move with his hands at the screen to explore
different body parts in detail. This way they can learn the anatomy and
functions. Linkoping Health University, Clinicum, will use technology
in all seven programs.
The table has been developed by the Linkoping company Sectra in
collaboration with researchers at Linkoping University, CMIV (Center for
Medical Image Science and Visualization), Interactive Institute and
Visualization Center C in Norrkoping.
The technology has received much international attention and has been
shown up all over the world. Sectra has integrated the table with his
system for imaging.
In addition to educational innovation may for instance be used to plan operations and to perform virtual autopsies.
