 Enzymes from snakes and spiders can make great use of matfabriken. I think Danish food company Danisco.
Danisco has obtained an equivalent 32 million Swedish kronor to the Danish Strategic Research Council to investigate substances from snakes, spiders and carnivorous plants. The goal is to find new powerful enzymes. These are example of the substances injected into the spiders flies to make them more liquid and easier to eat.
- These digestive enzymes are very effective and we would very much
like to explore the mechanisms behind them, "says Charlotte Paulsen at
Danisco Genencor Division Enzyme in a statement.
The Danish food giant cooperates in the project, including Arla Foods, and research institutes in Finland, Poland, Brazil and China.
About four years the group expects to have found the enzymes that are
most suitable to use commercially. Possible applications include
production of food and animal food as well as detergents and catalysts
in various processes.
The group will also investigate bioactive peptides as enzyme release.
These may have different health effects, for example by strengthening
the immune system and lower blood pressure.
