A computer voice that reads pick list directly in the ear may be the future of the warehouse workers in the Volvo group. It will make picking the job faster, with fewer errors.

It is not music, sports or an audiobook Dan Berntsson listening to when he walks his round among the shelves of stock F20 at Volvo Trucks plant in Tuve.

Instead, it is a voice that guides him through the day's work. It tells of the praise he should go, from which the unions he will pick, and how many details.

- It is true that hot and stuffy in the ear after a few hours, and sometimes I have and the computer voice problems understanding each other. But it's nice to have your hands free. And it is very much focused on work, it will clearly increase the efficiency, is Dan Bernt's review on the technology.

Four employees at the store has tried to pick lists unlocked by a synthetic voice, instead of self-read line by line on a piece of paper. Prototype system is developed in cooperation between Volvo Trucks and Volvo IT.

Fewer felplock, because it never needs to drop the parts you should pick the eyes, is one of the main effects.

In Volvo's truck plant in Brazil picked the material for a specific truck up and delivered to the assembly as a "kit". Now the factories in Europe to start building in the same way. For this to work is the "kitningen", where the packages are picked, important. A felplock leading to the assembly which may kit is imminent, and then stop the whole production.

So now evaluated different technical solutions, to see how the error rate can be minimized. So-called pick-to-light, with small display on hyllkanterna guides stocks workers, is already in use. Renault Trucks and Nissan Diesel has chosen the solution.

Volvo IT is already working on with the Voice of the prototype solution.

- We will be ready for installation at some time during the first quarter of 2009, "says Tommy Hansson, prototype leader at Volvo IT.
