MAG Hessapp presented at a house show in Taunusstein the impressive capabilities of the machine tool in the handling of railway components. One could, together with other technology partners, major companies in the rail industry and welcome the unique range of processing solutions live demonstrations.
![]() Ready for excellence: the engineering of VDM Series MAG Hessapp is the ideal solution when high precision heavy rail wheels are to be processed.
As a manufacturer of machine tools and manufacturing systems MAG supplies the world's most important industries with solutions for a modern and efficient production - which traditionally also the railway industry. With the various turning and milling of the group virtually all machining can be used in the manufacture of rail costs, are covered - from the forge blank to the finished part. The key for manufacturers is that Hessapp MAG and MAG Boehringer sister company in Goppingen and MAG Huller Hille in Mosbach-Diedesheim the know-how for processing and handling of the often very large and heavy parts like the data.
The key challenges in the processing of heavy components are cutting, precision and quality - it takes a lot of experience to offer in the shortest possible time from a brute of a tonnes by 300 kg lighter and on the hundredth millimeter range precision workpiece to be finished. So heavy rail wheels, the MAG machine produced and optimized, even with a successful world record attempt to use. On 2 September 2006 had a multi-system electric locomotive from Siemens type ES64U4, in the vernacular better known under the name Taurus, on the high speed line between Ingolstadt and Nuremberg, with 357 kilometers per hour a new best mark achieved. The machine series, on which the wheels had been edited, was now in Taunusstein live at work, too, shortly before delivery to one of the largest European manufacturer of rail systems.
Accordingly, customers from all over Europe arrived to sign in live demonstrations, lectures and exchange information with engineers, which was also supported by the tool manufacturer Kennametal and Sandvik, the clamping means Producer Röhm and nail were present. These talks will not be limited only to the rail wheels, including axles, brake discs, frame components, ie components of all sizes were at the center. As a result, over two days some promising new projects will be discussed. As a partner in the rail industry is working with MAG to develop the processing technology. New procedures and machine concepts will help the large demand for highly productive manufacturing facilities in the future to be able to operate perfectly.
